Kristian Erik Noesgaard

November 9th, 1972 - December 7th, 2015

It is with profound sorrow that we say goodbye to our Kris, a brilliant, gentle, generous man. Kris was a poet and a scientist, a dreamer and an engineer of dreams. He loved and was loved perfectly. His laughter was unforgettable. Musical and rollicking and infectious, it lit up the room.

Kris was born in Saskatoon to Laura (Walton, nee Alberts) and Erik Noesgaard on November 9th, 1972. He was adored by his parents, grandparents and many aunts and uncles. In 1976, he was joined by sister Lisa, and they spent their childhood cocooned in the love of their parents. They spent cherished summer days in Tobin Lake with Grandma and Grandpa (Venita and Ralph) and in Victoria with Far Far and Far Mor (Borge and Jytte) who doted and spoiled them endlessly. Kris was a gentle, curious child who excelled at everything he tried his hand at. He was fascinated with computers and spent countless hours building them and was a self taught programmer at a young age. As a teenager, he moved to Calgary with his family, where he went to high school and made lifelong friendships. Kris moved to Victoria in 1992 to attend UVic. After graduating with a BSc in Computer Science with a minor in Philosophy, he completed his MSc in Computer Science in 2008. Kris' life was cut short just as he was in the midst of earning his PhD, juggling parenting with full-time work at the e-learning company he co-founded with former colleagues from Royal Roads University, and planning family . Kris will be deeply missed by the friends and colleagues at Udutu with whom he worked for 13 years.

On August 20th, 2005, Kris married his love of ten years Tamara Yewchuk. Their daughter Isana was born on September 18th, 2006. Though they eventually separated, they enjoyed co-parenting their beautiful daughter together. Kris lived for Isa. He delighted in taking her swimming, hiking, camping, tubing on Mt. Washington, and in sharing his loves of gaming, graphic novels, reading and learning with her. In 2010, Kris met Chelsea and they began a life together with Isa and Ava, a life full of passion and music and big dreams. Kris and Chelsea's beautiful boy, Elias, was born on May the 4th, 2014, a Star Wars baby - so fitting for Kris. He was a devoted, playful, patient father and step-father to his kids, and was so looking forward to watching little Eli grow up alongside big sisters Isa and Ava (Chenery).

Kris read widely and voraciously, but was passionate about sci-fi. He was encyclopedic in his knowledge of mythology, artificial intelligence literature, world history, current events, philosophy, and of course monsters. He wrote beautifully and often to his partner Chelsea. He loved music, comic books, magic, horror movies, space and thought experiments. Of his favourite writer, Philip K. Dick, he wrote "He showed us, with space ships and androids, what it meant to be human... the heartache of a being who knows that life is fleeting, but who forgets, caught up in the minutiae of existence." Kris was brilliant and kind, a sensitive man with a huge, huge heart. He was a true philosopher, forever questioning and questing. Kris will be remembered for his thirst for knowledge and his arguments for a more equitable, tolerant world free from ignorance and fundamentalism.

Kris is pre-deceased by his grandmother Jytte Noesgaard and survived by his mother Laura Walton (Peter), father Erik Noesgaard (Debbie), sister Lisa Singh (Alok), nephew Rohan, God-parents Karen (Cherry) and Jack Noesgaard, grandparents Venita and Ralph Alberts, grandfather Borge Noesgaard, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be deeply missed by Isa's mother Tammy and the Yewchuk family. He will be missed profoundly by his partner Chelsea (Wakelyn), his children Isa and Eli, and his step-daughter Ava (Chenery), in whose lives he has left an unfathomable hole.

9:06 AM (2 hours ago)

“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”

Until we meet again, my darling, and dance off into the stars.
