It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Gum Jong on December 9, 2016 at the age of 90. Born in Guangdong, China and as a matchmaker bride, she immigrated to Victoria in 1959. Predeceased by her husband Wah Hin Lee. Survived by her sons: Stan, Walter (Mei) granddaughters Michelle and Melissa, Norman (Yoko) grandson Markus, Michael (Erika) granddaughter Kathryn Robotham (David) great granddaughter Chelsea (Damel), grandson Michael (Georgina) great grandsons Manoah and Greyson, grandson Gregory (Marites) great granddaughter Tiarrah and great grandson Jacob, grandson Philip (Katsura); her brother: She Yau (Yu Ai) many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and extended family members in China.

Gum Jong was forever indebted to the ladies who arranged her happy marriage to her beloved husband. Her greatest pride and joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very proud of her three sons who exceeded her expectations by all becoming dentists. In her earlier years, she worked at local greenhouses, Vantreight Farms, and later at the Coachman Inn Post House Restaurant for over 17 years. After retirement, she enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening; generously giving away to friends and neighbours fresh produce from her bountiful vegetable garden. With her smile, energy and positive outlook she lived every moment of her life to the fullest, appreciating everything that came her way.

The family would like to thank Dr. Walter Chow, his staff and Erika at Lifelabs Medical Laboratory for all their support, compassion and care.

A service to celebrate the life of Gum Jong Lee will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 19 at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra Street with interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lee's Benevolent Association.
