<div itemprop="description"><br>It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Donald McKinnon on November 6, 2016 in Victoria. <br> <br>Donald is predeceased by his parents, Findlay and Velma McKinnon; son, Ian; and grandson, Kyle. <br> <br>He is survived by his loving wife, Gwennyth; Children, Gregg & Janet, Rod & Ximena, Janice & Rod, Vicki & Frank, and Marilyn & Steve; Grandchildren, Ryan & Jessica, Rachel, Jordan, Brady & Ashley, Michelle, Devon, Jacqueline, and Jenna. <br> <br>Don spend 35 years in the education field. He received his Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia in 1960, and his Masters of Arts from the University of Victoria in 1974. <br>For the first 7 years of his career he taught in New Westminster, he then returned to Victoria in 1956 and began teaching at Lampson Elementary. Five years later Don was appointed Vice-Principal of North Ward and while there was elected and served as President of the Greater Victoria Teachers’ Association. He went on to become Principal at Cedar Hill, Braefoot, and then Rockheights Elementary in 1972 until his retirement in 1984. <br> <br>During Don’s retirement he was prominent in the curling community and was President of the Oak Bay and Esquimalt Curling Clubs. He was often seen in the garden by neighbours and enjoyed fishing, sharing the best fish locations over the air waves with his fellow fishermen. <br> <br>Special thank you to the family physician Dr. Luckhurst for his care and guidance as well as the staff at the James Bay Care Home. <br> <br>Don slipped away holding the hand of Gwen after 71 years of life together. <br> <br></div>
